FRANK A. DIEKMANN

GRANITE STATE DETACHMENT #542 ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP

GSD #542 member, Frank A. Diekmann, passed away on November 5, 2021.  Frank was active in the Marine Corps League (Commandant of the Granite State Detachment for 2 years and Department of New Hampshire for 4 years). He was recognized as Marine of the Year for the Department of New Hampshire in 2016. Frank also volunteered for a number of other organizations including SCORE, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, Society for the Preservation of New Hampshire Forests, the Governor's State Veterans Advisory Committee, Toys for Tots, Building Dreams for Marines and Honor Flight of New England.

The dedication and heart that Frank gave for the Marine Corps League and other great organizations in our community is why Granite State Detachment #542 has named its academic scholarship in his name.

Purpose

The Granite State Detachment (GSD) #542 – Marine Corps League has established the Frank A. Diekmann Granite State Detachment #542 Academic Scholarship to provide, to qualified applicants who are pursuing an undergraduate degree, and will be enrolled as a full-time student (12 semester hours minimum) at an accredited undergraduate institution, financial support for his/her studies.

Commandant Trade School Scholarship

In Recognition of 1st Lt. Rogers Blood

Purpose

The Granite State Detachment (GSD) #542 – Marine Corps League has established the Granite State Marine Corps League #542 Commandant Trade School Scholarship in recognition of 1st Lt. Rogers Blood to provide, to qualified applicants who are pursuing a certificate-state issued license in such fields as: cosmetology, barbering, hair styling, truck driving, electrician, plumbing, or other trade schools, as a full-time student as defined by the accredited programming of training by the state where the student will be attending. Please see Section Two, Eligibility below to determine who may apply.

Area of Scholarship Coverage for Both Scholarships

The applicant needs to reside in one of the following towns in New Hampshire:

Hillsborough County

Amherst, Antrim, Bedford, Bennington, Deering, Francestown, Goffstown, Greenfield, Hillsborough, Litchfield, Lyndeborough, Manchester, Merrimack, Mont Vernon, New Boston, Weare, Windsor

Rockingham County

Auburn, Candia, Chester, Derry, Fremont, Hampstead, Londonderry, Raymond, Sandown

Merrimack County                 Hooksett

Eligibility for Both Scholarships

The following classes of individuals will be considered for the scholarship:

A.   Children, minor stepchildren, grandchildren, minor step grandchildren, great grandchildren or minor great grandchildren of a current dues paid member of the Granite State Detachment Marine Corps League 542. The definition of minor being under the age of twenty-one (21). Membership is defined as prior service, active duty, reserve duty Marine, FMF Corpsman, or Navy Chaplain.

B.   Children, minor stepchildren, grandchildren, minor step grandchildren, great grandchildren or minor great grandchildren of an active duty or reserve member of Bravo Co., 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment or Marine Corps Recruiting Substation Manchester NH. The definition of minor being under the age of twenty-one (21). Membership is defined as active duty, reserve duty Marine, FMF Corpsman, or Navy Chaplain.  The location of residence for either the unit member or the associated family member does not need to be in the Granite State Detachment 542 region of coverage to be able to apply. (See section above for area of coverage)

or

C.  Students from public schools, private schools, parochial, and home schooled irrespective of where the school is located contingent with their stated residence being within area of coverage listed above on this website.

D.   Area of coverage as defined with the exception only for a member class B irrespective of where the parent lives other than their status classification with the unit at time of application.  (See the section above for coverage area).

F. The above students must currently have a Cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Awarding Values

The Board of GSD has approved the minimum scholarship award values for these two scholarships as follows.

Frank A. Diekmann scholarship at $2500

Commandant's Trade School scholarship at $1500
